Fashionable DSLR Bag for GF

Hey guys,

Looks like my girlfriend will be getting either a T2i or T3i for Christmas and I would like to get her a bag for it. I highly doubt she'll grip it and I'm anticipating her acquiring about 2-3 at most, maybe a flash one day. However, for now I would like a relatively small, well made bag for her that is also somewhat feminine/fashionable. She is currently 21 and likes Vera Bradley/etc.

I've looked on the Etsy site, but everything is either backordered until after Christmas, or I don't like the design (too deep/no padding/etc.)

Any recommendations? I would like to keep it around or under $100 if possible.

Thanks a ton!

Don't have first hands experience with this one, but it looks pretty slick.

These are more than $100 but they are like the ultimate woman's camera bag in style.

Those both look very nice and not crazy pricing, but I'm not sure if those are quite her style. Not sure how to describe it, but I think that is a little too formal/classy and purse like than she would want. For certain ocassions she has purses like those but for an everyday camera bag I think she would like something a little more "fun"?

Thank you!

Well maybe a crumpler could be the way to go? If she's into that kind of thing. Something like this (external link)

Or, have a look at the stealth bag thread here, buy an insert and find a nice girly bag to put it in maybe?

Good idea, getting her a camera bag that looks nice :)

Your budget is a bit low, you will probably want to find a way to stretch it as their are some really great options available in the sub 200 dollar price range. Unfortunately, not a ton of good options exist sub 100 dollars. If you're having trouble with the price, consider that the camera bag isn't just something that carries the equipment - it is also there to protect it. You don't want to cheap out! (Also, a good looking normal purse will often times run for more than $100, and sometimes even more!)

Good luck!

Thanks for all the great options, guys! Have a lot to consider :)

As far as price, I am willing to go a bit higher for a better bag. I have a few things I want to get her/have already gotten her, but I can give them to her for her Feb. birthday or for our anniversary in Jan. (then no presents until next Christmas, LOL).

I don't find a small bag very useful. I try smaller bags and then end up taking the Passport anyway, since it's collapsible and looks just like a regular sling bag. How sure are you that your girlfriend wants a DSLR? Because the new S100 or the now on sale G12 may be a better choice. I've been a pro for a while and I don't like to take my big guns all the time. The G12 is what I take and the images are truly wonderful. Also the T3i is excellent, but the lenses are the real money suckers. That will continue to be an expense for years.

Well she has always been a P&S girl (although she always wanted to get in photography) so I asked a few times and she seems confident in her choice. I mentioned the smaller mirrorless ones that you can still swap lenses on but she wanted a small DSLR like a Rebel. As far as lenses, I figure she can get started with the kit lens and 55-250 and get what she wants/when she wants from there on. I figure the ISO capabilities of the new Rebels with those two lenses will do at least what her P&S could do.

Haha I'm finding that out. Have any suggestions that are mildly more expensive?

Hey what do you guys think of the Crumpler Haven? Could she put her stuff in there then throw it in one of her purses or travel bags (were in college so a lot of traveling)? Seems like it may work...

I'm having a really hard time deciding between a girly but non-protective bag, the Haven type, or a sling... The real bags seem like one more thing to carry when going in the car but if she's going somewhere with just a few things the dedicated bag would be nice..
