It had been a while since I shot ice hockey- I love the game, but had forgotten the joys of shooting through the glass in sub-par lighting. In the cold too.

Here are some of the results- C&C are welcome!

Just an afterthought- Is anyone lighting hockey? With what kind or results? Any info is appreciated!

7D, 70-200 2.8is II. I was shooting in M, as I recall, 1/1250, 2.8, iso 3200. The shots looked pretty good on the little camera screen, but like a bonehead, I didn't really study the histogram. Once I got them into Lightroom, I ended up having to boost the exposure about a full stop.

As for the glass- I hate it. The only observation I have is that when I shoot through it, the straighter the better. As soon as I start angling the lens from 90 degrees to the glass, things get worse and worse.

Thanks for the comment!

FYI, you can probably get away easily with 1/500 or 1/640 for shutter speed for hockey and lower the ISO for less noise, not that 3200ISO is an issue on the 7D. I shoot pro and WHL games in good light at 1600 ISO, 1/640 and f3.2. I've also had good results with hockey at 1/400 shutter but usually with younger age groups and in dark arenas. But 1/400-1/640 works well. I also shoot at 4000-5000ISO at 1/500 and f3.2 in our dark Junior B barn.
