My wife and I were on a TV show over there called house hunters international a few months back and they had a bunch of footage of me photographing my wife in a red coat over here in the UK.

We saw the episode a while back but just got an email from my wifes parents saying that a canon advert on the discovery travel channel had the footage of my wife and I doing the photoshoot.
We dont know which advert it is and what its for but maybe someone can help.

Has anyone seen it?

I haven't seen it.

I presume that they got the necessary permissions from the TV producers/photographers. Then, the question would be did you sign a release for appearing in the TV show? I would imagine that you would have, since it's SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) for TV/movie production...?

Oh yeah we signed the release forms for the show. Not sure if they added that it could be used by other people without letting us know but i'd have to check.
Im more interested to actually find out if its true or not. However its impossible to find out without getting the Channel

The release form likely gave them the right to use the footage in whatever way they wanted. So, if Canon offered money for some of the footage, it was fine and between Canon and the production company.

I would imagine that is exactly the case, im not really worried about that at all. I just wanted to find out if anyone had seen it. I believe it was on the travel channel at about 11pm est in the middle of a show about greece.

Im trying to see if I can find the commercial online anywhere although im not sure what christmas adverts are currently running over there.

Hmm, didn't see the commercial! I don't know how you would search to find it online -- was it advertising a particular camera that you know of?

Heh! As long as it doesn't have Ashton Kutcher in it (or Charlie Sheen, for that matter):)!

My wife watches the show but I have never seen the commercial. From Canada. I'll look out for it. I was pretty sure when I bought out PVR I was going to be the master. It is filled with cooking, interior design/decorating, house hunting, home reno, etc shows. I'm still confused.
