I have someone local offering me his 50L (2006) in trade for my 24-70L(2011). It is really tempting as I was planning to sell it and grab a Sigma 50 f1.4 and keep the 24-105 that came in kit lens. The 50L is very tempting but I think it is really pricy for the thin difference with the f1.4. Is the 50L really worth the price ?

if i were you i'd sell the 24-105 and buy a 50 1.4 and pocket the change or buy something else. or sell the 24-105 and buy a 35L.

I bought the 50L last week....I am in love with it. The effect that you get from shooting f/1.2 is something that you wish that the f/1.4 can provide. I upgraded from the f/1.4 as well, the bokeh on the 50L is just so creamy and dreamy.

I would do it in a heartbeat, but I love my 50L and I'm not a fan of the 24-70.

Very personal choice though. Value wise you're both getting a decent deal, just depends if you want to make the switch.

That was my second option but I was much more looking at the sigma 50 f1.4 instead of the Canon. I loved the color on the sigma 30 when I was on crop...

50L has better colors, and far less fringing than the Sigma. 50L will still fringe when shooting high contrast subjects, but the Sigma is just out of control.
