I'm very new here and I know there are rules in place about how long you must be a member before you post for sale items. Will a noob like myself have trouble selling because I'm new? I have never used eBay either so I'm not sure I'd be able to unload anything here.

Would Craigslist or eBay be a better bet? I was thinking about picking up a 5d2 kit but I would want to trade sell the lens plus I'd be looking to unload my other equipment.

How can a noob such as myself overcome his noobiosity?

And trust me, I get it. I'd be wary buying from a noob also.

You need to be a member for 30 days and have 30 posts to keep people from dropping in, scamming and then disappearing. You can certainly build some trust here by being an actual contributor and proving that you know, use, and actually own the gear. But if you want to move it fast, look for another venue.

That word just seems to bother me for some reason.

You might want to try Craigslist. I'd have no problem selling to a new member, but would be hesitant to buy from a new member.

Would I deal with a 'noob'? Likely not.

Would I deal with a 'newb'? If we did things by the book, sure, I'd take a shot.

Noob means you have little or no knowledge (and usually, little or no hope for obtaining knowledge) in regards to a particular subject, etc. Newb simply means you're new. Everyone was a newb once. Not everyone was a noob though. Thus, if you're actually active in the community, and employ certain safe guards when dealing with people (shipping only to verified Paypal Addressed with signature required via USPS or another major carrier with decent tracking), and are willing to provide certain information (perhaps, phone number, email address, etc) then I dont see people having that much of a hard time dealing with you.

If you have other sales experiences (eBay trading history, Heatware trader rating, Fred Miranda feedback, etc) then it's definitely a plus if you're less than inclined to give out certain information. If you're willing to be open with people about certain things and treat them the way you'd want to be treated as a buyer though, you shouldn't have any problems once you become eligible to post your own for sale posts.

Welcome and good luck!

Well, dang. I never knew the difference between noob and newb. Perhaps I should re-do my original post. I don't want to portray myself incorrectly. :o

Yeah, that doesn't get picked up too often on some of the forums I participate in... so I just assume everyone does.

Just to respond to one question in your post, the one about Craig's List:

I'm very inexperienced with person-to-person transactions like this. So, the one time that I needed to sell one of my "spendy" pieces of gear I decided to go through Craig's List and sell to someone local, so that I oculd have cash in-hand and the buyer could pay with confidence because the gear would be on-hand to check it out.

I was successful in the sale! The funnt thing, though, is that there are "predators" who lurk in Craig's List. I believe I was mailed two "checks" of about $5k for a pice of gear that was worth maybe a bit over $1k, but not $2k. Needless to say, when I called the "issuing" bank, the checks were fake...
