S1 IS problem

Hi all,
It is the first time I am writting to this forum, and I would appreciate any help anyone can give me re my camera.

The issue with the S1 IS camera started when another person tried to take a picture of my wife and I and pushed buttons at random.
From that point on I have lost about 20 pictures before realizing the camera was taking pictures but one on top of the other.
1. Also, some settings stayed the same no matter what you were trying to do (IE exposure at 1 1/3, the hand with the manual focus was on … etc)
2. At that point I have reset a counter which was set to ON, and camera started to work, but it was skipping pictures (IE picture 1,2,3,5 then 6,7,8,10) and it was not putting the pictures in the appropriate order but assigning them as a batch exactly at the point where the person who tried to take our picture was pressing the buttons.
3. I have then changed the memory card to a new one, but realized that it was not showing the appropriate number of pictures you could take (IE for a 36MB card it was showing 300 pictures, after you closed the camera was showing 200)
4. I have then reformatted the memory card, and the memory card error appeared every time you tried to take pictures (only on the reformatted memory card).
5. After that I have reset the camera to factory defaults, and would allow me to take pictures, but as soon as you closed it and opened it again it will give the same memory card error.
Thank you for your help.
Harold

Purely a guess, but even if it doesn't help it shouldn't hurt: remove the small disk battery that retains your camera's settings, as well as the regular batteries. Wait about 5 minutes, and then re-install the batteries. Reset the camera once more to factory defaults. If you have a fresh memory card, plug it in; otherwise try re-formatting one again.

Hope you get it sorted out without long-term problems. Good luck!

The small battery will likely be in the same compartment as the rest of the batteries, but will have its own sub cover in there. It will have a little writing on it saying what type of battery, just open that up and pop out the battery.

It sounds like the memory card is corrupted. I would try reformatting that card in your computer with a card reader. Better to have messed up a card than your camera, memory is relatively cheap.
