There are some threads with comparisons. But since you are looking at fast action sports, ur AF and FPS is better on 7D. So, !! He's asking about the 1DMK3.

The 7D is a great cam and it's cheaper, but having shot sports myself with the 1D series the MKIII would be my choice all day long for ergonomic and durability issues, and the AF is better too. The single largest benefit that I gained from the 7D was the being able to successfully crop more with the extra resolution. It's really a great camera, but it's not a 1D series, if you don't need ISO 6400+ and the extra resolution I highly recommend the 1D3 The new metering system on the 7D also caused it to slow down in poor light when using high FPS, which was very annoying...never had that issue with the 1D series. What he said +1 http://www.rivervalleypoodles.com/

It's AF is quite good, and shares the same AI Servo algorithms and many of the CF settings from the 1D4. But yes, if you don't need the resolution and will be shooting at ISO 3200 and lower, and you have the extra funds to cover the purchase, get the 1D3. Don't let AF be the deciding factor though, the 7D zone AF is quite amazing, so much so, that they are bringing over some of the AF modes to the 1DX. Past Equipment | My Personal Gallery

The 7D is far more versatile. From HDSLR to Flash Commander. From the crop range to high detail MP images. With its ability for users to customize buttons, ergonomics is not an issue. The 7D unlike other compact EOS dslr is quite well thought out. The 7D simply is more diverse in its application. Vancouver Portrait Photographer

Dec 08, 2011 13:34 | #7 I've seen some nice 7d bball photos (Teamspeed included) didn't know if there'd be much value at higher ISO and with the AF for the difference in prices. I tried a buddys mk1V and it was a whole lot better than the 7d I owned a couple years back, but it's also triple the cost. I defaulted a couple years back to the d700 as it's low light capabilities and IQ were better than the 7d and it's AF was more than adequate for sports. MIght just stay here a little longer... Randy
