Hey guys,

Just wanted to come on here and share the good news about me starting my sports shooting career. In the beginning of November I finally was given the opportunity to shoot the Carolina Hurricanes on a 1 game press pass to get my foot in the door. This was already a dream come true for me and I was beyond excited that I was able to do that after shooting 2 seasons from the stands and improving myself from there I got a nice portfolio and a great opportunity.

After the November 1st game I got to shoot I put together my best photo's from that game and sent them out to numerous media outlets to ask for them to apply for credentials for me to shoot on there behalf. Well I never heard anything back from any of the close to 12 outlets I approached. (no big ones as there are already shooters for getty, AP, us presswire, local paper, etc.)

Well this past weekend I got an email from a Carolina Hurricanes reporting website that I had not even contacted but had through other means found my photos and asked if I was available to start shooting the Hurricanes on there behalf ASAP.

So needless to say after only 6 years of being into photography and 2 years going at it hard and promoting myself as a sports shooter, I have season credentials to shoot the Hurricanes and start my career off strong at 19. I'm really excited and going to make the best of this lucky opportunity I've been given and just thought I would share with everyone here!

Here's a sample from my portfolio:

Wow! Congrats.
Maybe if I improve my hockey photos, and increase my hockey portfolio, I will shoot for the NY Rangers lol.
Probably not, they have like 3 of their own photogs.

Also I have to ask, do they give you the magic pocket wizard with which you can control the arena strobes?

For every NHL team there is a photographer that has the Getty Images contract. (They have a deal with the NHL). Those photographers are the ones that get the strobes for the arena. Which is ok with me because I don't like having to limit my shots and try to time them just perfect because I'd rather take a 5 sequence and get the shot.

And the Canes have atleast 5 photographers there every game but there is only 1 team photographer for each NHL team. The rest of us just have media outlets that credentialed us to shoot for their publication.

For the NY Rangers, I usually see one for the team, two for MSG (the venue) itself, then two getty guys, an AP guy, daily news guy, and like 2 or three other guys taking up the port holes, and a bunch of other dudes in the press box 4 stories above the ice.

Wow, luckily the RBC Center has 8 holes and plenty of 1st level room for us to shoot from and maybe 5-6 photographers at most for every game. Sounds like it's busy up in NY!
