cropping with element 9

I bought the Kelby book "photo element 9 and also downloaded the related pictures to work on, especially "crop"
When I work from the top bar Menu "Image>>Crop" I can place a rectangular to crop.
But when I click on the crop icon on the toolbar on the left of element 9 the rectangular crop is on an angle. Can somebody explain why?

Try right-clicking or clicking a small triangle in the bottom right of the crop icon which should bring up a menu of various types. There may different types of crop. Also try hitting "c" to see if the crop type changes.
