Well looking at the image, I dont think a firmware upgrade will matter, its a bit different footprint..a bit longer, and not as wide. Maybe an adapter.. EOS 6d, 7dMKII, Tokina 11-16, Tokina 16-28, Sigma 70-200mm F/2.8, Sigma 17-50 F/2.8, Canon 24-70mm F/2.8L, Canon 70-200 F/2.8L, Mixed Speedlites and other stuff.

Main question is, though, when will the camera industry, e.g., Canon, Nikon, etc., actually implement the new standard. The card manufacturers are not going to start making them unless there is a market for them = new cameras that will accommodate them. My guess is that it could be 3 to 5 years before this new standard makes it into the "field". Too many folks have got heavy investments in old CF cameras to mean that the old ones are going to go away any time soon. My 0.02ยข FWIW.

Not possible. It's using the PCI Express specification which will be different in hardware than current CF cards.
