Just picked up 7D and want to know if this feature is possible as is it on the 5D MKII.

1. When shooting in video mode on the 5D MKII, I can take a photo with the click of the shutter button and the camera will allow me to go from video mode to picture mode with one click. Is this feasible on the 7D? When in video mode on 7D, I am unable to take photos with shutter button. The camera shutter will click, but there will be no pictures displayed on the card. Is the 7D capable of going from video mode to picture mode as the 5D MKII?

Page 154 of the User Manual states: "You can take a still photo anytime by pressing the shutter button completely, even when movie shooting."

"If you take a still photo during movie shooting, the movie will have a still moment lasting about 1 second."

"The card will record the movie and the still photo as separate files."

RPCrowe,

You're right from what I saw in manual. Unfortunatey, when I click the shutter button in movie mode the camera clicks as if it's taking the picture. When I check to view the picture, there is nothing on the card. Strange isn't it?

Another related feature of the 7D is the ability to advance the video frame by frame using the supplied software and copy to save individual frames as JPEGs. I've had some good photos from that.

My 7D stores the .cr2 and video file when i press the shutter while shooting a video. Not sure if this matters, but what mode did u use for the still photo, Av, Tv, M or greenbox auto?

This happened in P mode. Not sure if the mode had anything to do with the photos, but I will try it again later tonight. I hope the results are different.

I have never tried it on my 7D because I don't use my video on the 7D for anything but to identify my images. I would be just as happy (or happier) if the 7D had a short audio record capability which could be linked to images...
