I've come to realize that I can not pronounce half of the company names of the photo gear I own and I'm not even sure I'm pronouncing the other half right.....I mean litterally! LOL

Horusbennu. Yongnuo. Rokinon. Zeikos. Feisol (ok don't own one yet but thats the next purchase)

I think the only ones I know for sure I'm getting right are canon and sigma! I fear the day some gear geek walks up to me and says, "hey what ball head is that?" As I look at him/her with a dumbfounded look, point to the name, and ask them if they can pronounce it!

Then you have photography terminology like "bokeh".....ok so that's the only one I can think of right now.....but still, seriously? Trying to pronounce some of this stuff makes my head want to explode!

Why the heck do some of these names have to be such a pain in the arse to pronounce?

Anyone else have issues with this stuff too?

P.S. feel free to give me pronunciations for any of those.....I have no problem admiting that I suck at the English language (and sadly it is my native language :o )

Cant help with the others, But someone who speaks fluent Japanese pronounces Bokah.... Bo -like the name, Ke - like the beginning of kettle.

They are a pain because they are not english terms. They are words originated in other languages and direct translations sometimes dont fit the reason for the term. So the term it self comes even though they are hard to pronounce.

Pointing is ok; signaling the person asking the question that you cannot speak/hear is better. Learn a few of the American sign language signs and you'll be good to go. If you're not inclined to learn some ASL, try acting crazy. I had a friend in NYC who carried around a telephone headset, the old ones that you used to hang up when done with a call, it had the cord attached. When approached by strangers she'd pull it out of her pocket and start simulating a conversation on it, with the cord dangling at her side (she told me the cord was important for the "look"). Worked great, she never got bothered.
