Lucite card-holder to hold gels?

I'm looking at ways to attach the Rosco sample gels to my 580 for some experimentation. Not crazy about some of the manufactured solutions I see and I'm also not inclined to take a bunch of time to build something elaborate myself. That said . . .

I'm wondering if those small lucite holders - the kind used to hold baseball cards or other signage - might not be a good and cheap solution. Easy to velcro to the flash, should hold the gel securely while also holding it away from the head, etc. They're kinda think, though; ~.5".

Thoughts about this? Any reason why this shouldn't work or create some other kind of problem?

Then you just missed out on the most amazing free give away ever. BEST GEL HOLDERS I've ever used. Check out this link and he may have a few extras left.

Adding color is so easy now.

I use the Honl speed strap with their gels. Not cheap, but well made. I would not have spent that much myself, but received it as a Christmas gift. Elegant solution.
