Hey I'm getting a 60D this Christmas and Im super excited. Now I've know of people who have Digital video recorders that have the ability to record the TV Via a cable. I was wondering if the 60D has that ability if so is it still it's normal 1080p?

I don't think that the 60D or any Canon dSLR has a video in port for you to send a signal into your camera. Also at 1080 I beleive the maximun recording time is around 12 minutes in a single video clip (4GB)....

It's designed for capturing optical events in front of the lens.

The HDMI out from all the canon DSLRs is not a clean feed. There will be a white box on the screen that you can move around, but its there.

Capture internally. Its your only option.

The OP was asking to record a tv show on their 60D... not record a signal from the 60D.

Oh.

Hey, OP. Check out how much a self contained 1080p capture device cost by looking up the Gemini, AJA Ki Pro, and Atomos Samurai/Ninja. I wish it was cheaper.

Shallfrisch - By far the easiest and most convenient way to record HD-TV these days, is without a TV...

That is, use your computer. You can get a USB2 DVB capture device very cheaply indeed, if all you need it to is get the TV-stream captured to file on the PC's HDD.

I'm using an Afatech AF9013 DVB-T, which even in Sydney is under AUD$40.00. The 'feed' from the roof array-antenna, via an extension, plugs directly into the Afatech.

It's worked in conjunction with the Kaffeine video program (in Linux) - which scans, does the regional search, and temp-lists all available 1080, 720 and SD-Digital channels. From the list you highlight the ones you want, and "Add+" them to your permanent Channels Selection list.

To use - just open the Kaffeine program, select the TV function, and that will open at the last Channel you had playing. Select any other Channel, it shifts to that in 2-3 seconds. There are buttons or drop-menus for Configure, Channels, Program Guide, Scheduled Recording, and an Instant Record button.

In Configure - just tell it where to store the recorded files. And that's about all there is to it - not very complicated at all.

You'll get "filename.M2T" files - MPEG2 Transport Stream... Those "can" be played directly, in VLC player - free for Windows, Mac, and Linux.

But to do anything practical with them, they'll need to be converted - MPEG2 is the obvious one, but H264 or Xvid are much smaller file-sizes.

You can use Avidemux - also free for Windows, Mac and Linux - to do the conversions. Also to cut the ads, channel promos, etc, out. You can append (join) the good content clips with Avidemux, though the joins might be a bit 'abrupt'.

I convert the 'good content' clip-lengths, to say, H264 - then in a video-editor (I use Kdenlive, in Linux - free, very like Vegas Pro, but easier to use - so Vegas, etc, could be used in Windows) - line up the content clips and use transitions to join. Then output the full video to widescreen or to suit std DVD, etc.

You can of course get hugely more functions in the more advanced capture devices, on-the-fly conversions, auto ad-etc removal, and more - but those tend not to come for under $40.00....

I can't recommend a good free TV-Player program for Windows Vista or '7', as my last experience with Windows was XP some 5-6 years back - but a glance on Google for "Free Windows TV Players" seems to list quite a few.

Regards, Dave.

There are cheap USB-connected capture devices to buy.

Then capture that onto a computer. Im about to do this for a friend of mine and this is the route Im going since you can literally lean over at the start of a match, hit record on the comp, play, and then lean back over and clip it. Nothing happened? Trash it. Sweet sequence? You can instantaneously cut it in whatever editing software your using (you didnt specify windows/mac).

My company builds and sells high-end live video streaming boxes. We use alot of the Black Magic cards. Although they are a solution, be warned that it is very finicky to get them to capture and record Xbox footage. I personally use the Intensity Pro to record and stream my Xbox footage--again...extremely finicky.
