Hey Guys

I have a minor ant problem in the kitchen so I thought I would make a short video of the ants. It is nothing special, but I thought I'd share it in case anyone wanted to see it :D

I apologize for the flickering light. I was hand holding a utility light while trying to adjust focus and stuff so it flickers some times :(

I think you should have directed your ants a bit more. :-) While ants sucking face is interesting for half a minute it doesn't float my boat for four. ;-)a

I did a macro thing a few months back which, because you can only take what happens, I put in a lot of cuts to try to pad it out a bit.

I'm with John, it needs more varied shots. While interesting for a few seconds, this shot needs some help. Finding a different angle would help a ton. Maybe if I was way, way stoned would this be interesting. As a still, yeah it's great, but as a video, not so much for that long.
You didn't kill or move all the ants yet did you?

I'd say shoot more, different angles and then mix in a sound track. It's a start! Keep trying.

Me too. After about 20 seconds I started wondering "is this it?". Would've been cool to see other shots of the walking, carrying stuff or whatever. A soundtrack would add a lot to it (like Chas suggested).

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'll get some music and add more shots when I have some free time, this was somewhat a way to distract myself from things I need to do :D

Once I add more footage and music I'll report back!

Can I suggest Devo's - Working in a Coal Mine? ;) Great song, but not for use on YouTube. They won't allow it. They meaning Devo... bad blood or something. But a perfect song for those images! :D

I'll prolly find something in the public domain so I don't have to pay for a license.

Well then what about the original version of that song? The original was done by Lee Dorsey in 1966.

I like it, and know the ants well. But yea, a few more shots and angles would have been nice. Glad to see you putting the MP-E 65 to some video work. I regrettably havent taken mine out in too long. Tough to deal with that razor thin DOF in video!

Probably could get a bit more by using a smaller sensor like a crop body DSLR.

I will try with my 7D next time, although more DoF at this level of macro is gonna be hard to achieve.
