Hi,

If so, what did you jump from, how did you find the change and what are the lenses like over there?

The reason I ask is I'm considering it but don;t want to bod the thread down with whys and so forth (otherwise I'll never get any feedback!)

Cheers.

I haven't jumped ship yet but was considering buying another camera it's a toss up between the Nikon D7000 and the Sony A580 both have features that I like
So I'm still checking out some reviews trying to figure out what I want, wish I could try both but I'm to broke for that.

I know what you mean, I'm lucky enough to have a second body (a 5D) which I can sell to fund getting a second hand one.

I've had a D7000 for about a year. Great camera. Nikon make great lenses.

I went from a 450D to a D7000, didn't really like the 60D for some reason... D7000 felt right and I've never looked back. The new nikon afs 50mm prime lens is simply amazing too, very rarely leaves my camera.

Switching brands is rarely worth it. In your situation, you have close to $3000 invested in gear that will only fit on a Canon body. Now you will have to sell that used for what will undoubtedly be a 15-20% loss, and then rebuy a similar setup for a Nikon camera. Your 60D will probably be worth significantly less than you paid for it, too. Your total cost for upgrading might be $1000 with transaction fees and depreciation. And what will you gain? 1fps burst? A few more AF points? A magnesium back?

I think the D7000 is a little better than the 60D, and even might hang with a 7D in some circumstances. But it won't change your pictures really at all vs the 60D.

D7000 definitely has a better sensor than the 7D, which is why it was a big debate for myself when I chose between them about a year ago. Ended up with the 7D because I simply liked Canon's stuff better. I knew that the pictures themselves would look similar enough. The ergonomics on the Nikon were bleh to me, Canon felt way better.

+1^
Do you really think that you will notice a real difference - i doubt
but it is much more fun to be on this forum with a canon
and buy the way next year canon comes with a 6.5D using the 1Dx sensor that will be a pixel better that Nikon --> than what ?

"Better sensor" is up for debate but after handling both the D7000 and the 7D,the D7000 feels like a toy.Overall features- the 7D rules the D7000.

I must admit the new sensor does raise some interesting questions, but you know when you've an itch you just have to scratch!

For so long I hear about this or that and wonder if it was the right choice to go Canon, if the worst came to the worst I would sell it back on, maybe at a bit of a loss and get the 7D II

I tried out the D7000 and I didn't like the ergonomics as much as the 7D. I also didn't like the button layout and controls as much. Most DX lenses have corresponding EF-S lenses, so that didn't sway me. It's the higher quality glass that might make me move to Nikon.

I'd heard about the Nikor being better glass, can you elaborate a bit?

If you're asking me, then I don't think my statement was phrased well. I was trying to say that each company has some lenses that the other doesn't. And if it so happens that I need a lens that Nikon has and Canon doesn't, I'd consider Nikon.

Ah, okay - its just I'd seen someone before say the kit lenses were better and another still claiming the "glass" was so I took it to mean that there was something there.

I really can;t see there being many if any gaps in the Canon lens line-up as they have tonnes, if anything too many - certainly more than Nikon appear to.
