So Canon Rumors is reporting Canon may soon release a 70-200 f4IS V2.

Kind of amazed this is on their priority list. I have this lens and really can't think of anything I'd want to change on it. Canon clearly does though, make an awesome lens better? fine with me!

Thoughts?

I'm so tired of that website. His predictions are qnever ever correct. Most of us can start a blog and say "I'm hearing rumored that this or that is coming out. Sure it is, eventually. I've been waiting for the 24-70 II to come out, the 5D3, etc. and all that site does is shatter people's dreams. lol

Seriously. If peopl wait to buy equipment based off that site, they'll wait a long long time. TRUST ME.

I don't buy this one!

The f4 IS is amazingly sharp, great IS, weather sealed, super fast AF.

What are they going to update with a mark2 version? I really feel that the only thing the f4IS can't do is go to f2.8 and they already have a couple lenses for that :)

It could be one of those superficial lens upgrades where nothing much changes except the price. My I also agree about the worthiness (or lack of) of those rumors.

Isn't that already one of Canon's newer lenses?

Those saying that there isn't much to upgrade - have you seen what they did with the 70-200mm f2.8? Granted the f4 was always a bit of a cut above the f2.8 - but I think they could pull out some upgrade to the overall quality - plus don't forget a new IS system and probably new AF system as well to offer improvements.

Might not be a night and day difference (but then look at camera bodies - most direct upgrades are not offering that much to tempt people who already own the model before; same with many lens upgrades).

As for the rumours - eh - its so unreliable its not worth it. I mean the 100-400mm MII and 24-70mm f2.8 IS L have been confirmed predicted releases for years now. The site is generally only accurate about a week or two before an official info release and that close you might as well wait for the full release details.

the canon c300 rumor was spot on when canon rumors was talking about it.

i do agree that other lens rumors aren't accurate, but it doesn't meant that they don't exist. with canon's capacity to produce, i'm sure R&D has a plethora of prototype lenses that the masses will never see.

Canonrumors spams every possible lens announcement. They think of every possible thing Canon could be working on and then when a lens does come out, they proclaim, "you heard it here first." Even then they still miss stuff like the 8-15 FE zoom.

I feel Canon needs to update the 35L, 135L and 200L f/2.8 II with weather sealing and newer improved optics long before introducing another version of the 70-200L f/4 IS. The 200L f/2.8 II and 135L could benefit from a 4 stop IS as well.

This is an idiotic rumor. In 2 years they'll be reporting on a possible 70-200 2.8 IS mark III :(

As an owner of the current 70-200 f/4L IS, it is hard to imagine what they would improve. My guess is that Canon might keep the current trend and "improve" the price too.

Maybe designed to work with the new 1.4 TC III as well as other improvments.

Doubt it - the 70-200mm f2.8 MII didn't get that option so I suspect canon isn't trying to encourage their use with the TCs - they've nearly always aimed them at the 300mm f2.8 and longer lenses which do get the AF speed boost.
