I plan on buying the Manfrotto 055XPROB and the 498RC2. Is this a good combo for my first tripod? It's about the max I can afford (about $250 total from Adorama).

I noticed there are similar legs to the 055XPROB such as the 055XB and 05XDB that are a bit cheaper. Is it worth the extra few bucks to get the 055XPROB?

Just trying to get the best bang for my buck and something that will last me a long time.

That is the single most popular and tried and true combo out there. That is where most advise everyone to start if youre looking in that price range. So yes, get that setup and enjoy :)

And if you have more questions, check out the tripod stick first: LINK

That's the same set up I have except older models. For the budget, you really can't go wrong with the set up. Kinda heavy but very solid.

If you do macro its worth the extra bucks. If you do any hiking look at the 190 series, far less weight. Manfrotto has rebates going on right now with the 190CXPro3 having $40 bucks off, and its a 2.5 lb. carbon fiber. Bought it myself.

Same setup I have, plus you get a mail in rebate for both the legs and head. I got my visa cards in 4 weeks from Manfrotto.
