Okay - my first attempt to get this stuff up here failed, so lets try again. I know I promised last time no more soccer from me... well I am sorry but after shooting 5 games in less then 24 hours... you get to indure some of this stuff too.

As always, if you see I could have done something better, PLEASE feel free to speek freely, my feeling will not be hurt. I post here to learn how to do it better - and so far you all have helped. Anyway... off we go...

First - some of your basic shots - the manditory headers

This one I wasn't sure of because the ball is almost not present... but I like it...

Tusseling for the ball on the sidelines...

But in the end, one team runs out of time... and it means the end of a season, or for some of these chaps, their amature career...

and nothing the coach says makes them feel any better...

I choose the black and white for the last two just because it fit the mood so much... it really was that black and white for these team, some played on, some make plans to return home.

Again - I am new to this soccer thing... any suggestions photographically or subject wise that I can do to improve... please feel free to share.

Thanks for looking

Wow, great shots. Can you give details about your gear? From the EXIF, you have a 20D but focal is 210, so I guess you are using an 2.8 zoom. What are your focus settings. AF or manual? If AF, which mode?

Thanks,

JTL

JTL - the lens was a Sigma 120-300 with a 1.4 tc. Focus mode was AI - letting the camera decide if it wanted to be in Servo mode. For what ever reason I am ending up with more in focus shots this way. I know it isn't supposed to work that way.... but it seems to be working. Cheers.

Cheers all...............

All right you all.... so help me out here. What's wrong with these images? They obviously are just ho-hum.... tell me whats up. Bad Crops? Color? Subject matter? Lack of action? what's up?

Trying to learn here...

 I missed 'em...must have been a weekend thing!

They look fine to me. Might be tempted to crop a few of 'em slightly more/differently and there are a few fingers that are just uncomfortably 'clipped'... but that's just being picky. I'm sure your clients will be well chuffed with a batch of pics like these ;)

I quite like the B&W stuff as well.

Overall, I think they show the rewards that can be reaped by cropping tightly in camera rather than relying on cropping a loose pic after the event.

Nice job.

Thanks Gavin for taking the time to comment... and yes, I am trying to shoot a lot tighter, and digits are often the casualties. What is sad is I also have the ability on most of these to have come a little wider to make sure I didn't cut off and extra body parts. My goal is to never have to crop more then say 20%.... still working on it.

You should have also hammered me on not being low enough.... I started the day low, but didn't have a chair, and the grass was getting wet and cold, and I wimped and stood up. After reading your note in that chaps other thread, I reviewed these again and I can see what a mistake it was now that I am looking at these images fresh again. Put that into my "lessons learned" folder.
