I have a Canon 50mm 1.4 who's af isn't working at all.

How can I tell if I can take it apart and fix it based on this http://www.fotomozaic.ro/artikel.php?idstory=225&s=1vs (external link) something that this will not fix. Like broken motor or something?

I doubt you could tell for sure, but does it try to focus at all when you half-press the shutter button? What if you try to help it focus by turning the focus ring? I don't think you'll make it worse by taking it apart unless you have never taken anything apart before. If you're familiar with taking stuff apart you'll probably be fine. By the way, your broken lens is probably worth about $150 in parts if you sell it on eBay. It might be worth less if you take it apart and can't put it back together.

P.S. Sorry about your broken lens. My 50 1.4 died too and it cost me $200 to get it fixed. Looking back, I probably should've tried to fix it myself.

I can still manually focus but no af at all.

Yeah, $200 and it took Canon about two months to fix it. Kinda sucks if you ask me.
