Best Buy has this at $179. Any comments on this model? (IPS236V)

I have read that calibration software is required, in addition to just buying an IPS monitor. (right?)

Also I would presume the calibrate color wizard thru the control panal in Win 7 is not useful for this? I say, "I presume this" since I haven't read about anyone using it.

I'm debating jumping on that this week. It was that price two weeks ago too. I just can't bring myself to actually buy it since I haven't bought my family christmas presents yet.

EDIT: I've read reviews like crazy for it, and the reviews that calibrate it say it calibrates well. It does sRGB very well. And yes, I'm pretty sure a hardware calibration device is necessary.

It reviews well (external link). Get a Spyder 3 (external link), I use the express version and it seems fine.

Cliffnotes Disclaimer: LG has two versions of the 23" IPS, the IPS236V and the IPS231P. They both are the same panel. Difference is the case, adjustibality of the stand, and the connectors. IPS236V has HDMI, the other doesn't.

I did, but I know that was directed at the OP.

I got the ips236V for Christmas (from me to me). Bought it from Best Buy for 180$.
All I can say is that I like it very much. Of course, my other monitor is an old 17 inch lcd brand X, so of course pretty much anything would've been a step in the right direction.
But I did read reviews before I bought it and I simply couldn't find anything that justified spending 250$ more for the Dell ips which was the next cheapest buy.

I know this probably isn't much help in the end, but for what it's worth, I bought it, I got it real quick, and it works great. World's away from my other LCD. Really good bang for the buck methinks.

I haven't calibrated it so I can't comment on accuracy, but I did set it to sRGB mode and it makes all my pictures look a lot better. Its loads better than my laptop monitor.
