I'm guilty of Hoarding due to Expediency...

I do go back and get really medieval on my folders, eventually...

Unfortunately, within a given year I move from shoot to shoot so fast that I usually only have time to cherry pick, upload the best and then move on to something else.

Exactly!! I am actually going thru 7 years of photos deleting photos that are junk. I am now at the year 2010 of my folders after 3 long months of sorting and dumping. I say keep the ones that are keepers. Other than that dump the rest and stay organized or it will catch up to you.

Yeah, my biggest thing is time, between two crazy kids and everything else I never seem to have any time to really sort out the shots. Although I did just get a remote desktop app for my iPad, so now I can maybe go through them and delete the obvious junkers and clean up while not being hunched over my computer desk and away from the kids.

The reason I cull right off the bat is to save time. If an image is not going to make it into print or into a slide show...off it goes. I just don't want to cruise through images which will never go any further than staying a raw file.

Even the hoarders should consider the possibility that an excessive collection in the future might be ignored or destroyed by your descendants when you are gone. If you can't bother to go through the images the odds that someone else will are slim. Worth considering making "best of" collections that can be kept in a relatively compact place....and sharing with relatives/loved ones.
