Does anyone have this turned on on their 50D ? If so to which number setting ? Any benefits / drawbacks ?

I'm thinking of getting a Noise Ninja license for PP, is that the better route to go ?

Thanks !

Do you shoot RAW? What software do you process in?

I shoot jpeg + RAW, use Lightroom 3 for PP.

If you process your RAWS, those settings will have 0 effect in LR3. They only affect the JPEG rendered screen preview and final JPEG file. Those settings are only applied to RAW files if you use DPP.

OK, so am I better off using the built in noise reduction + DPP or Noise Ninja ?

If you are shooting both raw+jpeg, there is no disadvantage. The problem with any noise reduction method is that you loose data/detail. Once applied to a jpeg image, it cannot be removed. Also, in camera NR is applied over the whole picture whether it's needed or not. You have no control. As you also shoot raw, you have the data as the sensor saw it so without and NR.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

Ahh good point. I'm going to stick with PP noise reduction then. As far as Lightroom, DPP, or Noise Ninja I'll have to decide what works better for me.
