E-TTL/TTL cords?

I'm looking into getting a speedlight flash to experiment with the sort.
I'll probably be getting a YN-565EX if anything, seeing it has a great feature-set for a n00b and fits with a T2i rather well for the price. Heh.

From my understanding, if I were to use say a couple of radio transmitters (Cowboystudio or Yonguo) I would lose the TTL ability. And, seeing as the T2i doesn't have the ability to control the speed-light off camera without the use of radio triggers (or items like it), I'd be out of luck. But, when mounted on camera, I can use the TTL feature, correct? (Making sure.) :o

How would a cord like THIS (external link) work?

If they work well, 33ft is just fine. I don't really care about the restriction of the cord, I just can't justify upgrading my camera body (I'm looking at something like a 7D in a few years) just yet or investing into Pocketwizards or an ST-E2 ($$$).

Also, an easy question I'm sure, what's the difference between TTL and E-TTL?

Thank you. I'll pick one up after getting a Yonguo.

You might want to look for one that is not coiled as when it expands to 33 feet it will pull your stand over. http://ocfgear.com/ (external link)

I will second the suggestion to get a straight cord instead of the curl cord. Straight cords lay flat on the floor and you get most of the length out of them without pulling your stands over like the curl cords do.

I'd get the Pixel Componor instead. I have used it a couple of times and works perfectly. Plus you can use any length network cable. I haven't the need to use the grouping feature though.

I've bought several cords/adapters from FlashZebra in the recent past. When in doubt I would send an email to Lon and he promptly responds to my inquiry and recommend products that would satisfy my needs.

These chords would only work with one speed light correct?

Yes, although since you are moving the flash but retaining all hotshoe features, if you have a flash capable of serving as a master you can still do that while putting your flash some place more useful than on top of the camera.

And assuming your flash is capable of acting as a master, it can still control any number of slaves and control them from a compatible camera with Canon's optical wireless system.

DEFINITELY skip the coiled cord.

I took a short cord and made my own long cord with a couple RJ-45 jacks and a cat-5 cable like this: http://www.diyphotography.net …nding-your-ttl-flash-cord (external link)
It's ugly, but uses generic cat-5 cables and you can use whatever length you need for the shot you are doing. I've never had reason to shoot over 50 feet, but I do have about 700 ft left on a spool from a remodel job that I may try it on just to see how long it can go.

I am serious....and don't call me Shirley.

don't want to hijack the thread but do these cords enable HSS on say a canon 430 ex II with a Canon XXD/XD body?

They retain all the functions you would have if the flash were in the hotshoe, so YES.

QUOTED IMAGE

100%. Why would you buy a fixed cord when you can make any length of cord you like from ordinary cat5 cabling at virtually no cost? It's a superb product.
