Thank you so much for making this thread. I am very very close to pulling the trigger and ordering from Adorama. It's just that FeDex has given me the worst service in Edmonton and UPS loves to give me a surprise at the door.

Again thank you for posting your experiences.

Use UPS Worldwide Express. 2 day service, $10.00 Brokerage Fee (use to be free)
and the shipping costs are still reasonable.

As for getting hosed locally, If you buy the following:

Lee Big Stopper
Lee GND Kit Soft
Lee GND Kit Hard
Lee CP Filter
Lee Foundation Kit
67mm WA Adapter
77mm WA Adapter
82mm WA Adapter

From Adorama:

HOSTED PHOTO DISPLAY FAILED: ATTACH id 569385 does not exist. ]

$1110.75 US Currently = $1151.00 + 5% GST + $10.00 = $1218.55

From a local Edmonton store:

HOSTED PHOTO DISPLAY FAILED: ATTACH id 569386 does not exist. ]

difference is $1991.43 - 1218.55 = $772.88

For that much, I could have flown to NY, Stayed a few nights at a
nice hotel, bought everything and still had a couple dollars left over.
(Although going into Adorama and B&H would have cost me much more :-P)

PS: I just received a package from Adorama this week, and the
Package left last Friday at 3:00 PM and arrived Monday at 11:00am

OK,

Adorama Price

Lens - $1,974
3 yr ext warranty $59.95
Shipping $83.60
Tax (on my end) $281.03

Total: $2398.58

My Camera Store

Lens - $2549.99 (and thats the sale price)
3 yr ext warranty - $400 (what!!!)
Tax - $383.50

Total: $3333.49

That my friends is a difference of $934.91

You should come for a visit down under to Australia where EVERY camera store you go into are the expensive price you have shown (plus warranty yet) with little variation in price from store to store. I don't mind paying a little extra for personal sales but that sort of a price difference is a complete joke. Hence having to order all my camera gear online.

I had a similar experience when I was looking for my 5DMkII. I live in a smallish town in the UK with 2 camera shop. The first one wanted £1699 for the body only, 5 minutes walk away the other shop had it at £1559 which is £140 difference for a 5 minute walk.
I decided to come home and check the web and found it at a camera shop in Surrey 150 miles away for £1435 including first class post. Well it was a no brainer for me where to get it from and as I had the £1700 saved up I decided to add a bit more to it and get it with a 24-105 f4 L as well, alltogether £2035 posted which ended up saving me over £300 for the kit compared to the local shops.

EOS 5D MkIII, EOS 70D, EOS 650D, EOS M, Canon 24-70 f2.8L MkII, Canon 70-200 f2.8L IS MkII, Canon 100 f2.8L Macro, Canon 17-40 f4L IS, Canon 24-105 f4L IS, Canon 300 f4L IS, Canon 85 f1.8, Canon 50 f1.4, Canon 40 f2.8 STM, Canon 35 f2, Sigma 150-500 OS, Tamron 18-270 PZD, Tamron 28-300 VC, 580EX II Flash, Nissin Di866 MkII Flash, Sigma EM 140 Macro Flash and other bits.

Oh god no.

But if I were a person who was truly disgusted that someone would stoop so low to want to save well over $100 of their hard earned money and buy online, I would have shown more etiquette and said something like "well that is kind of a dorky thing to do". I would not have said something like "nice...dork".

On the flip side I think it is kind of dorky that someone would knowingly spend well over $100 more to buy locally. But I'm not a rich guy, do my research, don't buy spontaneously, look for the best deal, use coupons, and shop at Walmart.
