Canon 5D II OR 70-200mm f/2.8 IS L II

Hi All,

Due to the price drops in recent few days I somehow have convinced myself to go either for Canon 5D II OR 70-200mm f/2.8 IS L II lens.

My question is, buying which one out of 5D or the lens is a wise decision.

I already have 40D, 70-200mm F/4 Non IS, 100mm f/2.8 Non IS, 50mm f/1.4 and 18-55mm (IS kit) lenses. If I buy the lens I will sell the existing 70-200mm lens.

I will really appreciate any help on this issue.

Well what do you shoot?

Remember that your 18-55mm will not fit on a 5DII so you would have 50mm as your widest lens for the FF. Not terrible, but not that good either.

The 70-200 II is an excellent lens, for sure, but again what do you shoot?

I have the 5DII and 40D and I love the combo. For wedding work I keep a 17-55 on the 40D and 70-200 2.8IS on the 5DII. For landscape I have the 16-35II which can also be used for wedding work. Really depends on your uses.

Can't go wrong with either. As Numenorean said, it depends on your needs. What does your 70-200 f/4 not do that the II will do? How will you benefit from a 5D2 over your 40D?
