I just purchased a second hand 560 which I've been using for OCF and works great when paired with an ST-E2. I mounted on the hot shoe but did not flash when the shutter button was pressed. Will the flash work when mounted on the hot shoe or is there something that I need to adjust on flash or body?

Should work fine on a hot shoes. Just make sure it's in manual mode (M) instead of one of the slave modes

This tbh, easily overlooked. I did it last week, pulled the 565 out and spent a minute or so trying to figure out why it wasn't firing. The remember it was in slave mode when I used it with my ST-E2

Duh...just changed slave modes and worked like a charm.

I'm running into another issue with the 560 as I have the ST-E2 on the camera body, the camera is in M, 560 is set to S2 but when I try to pop the flash...nada. I have been able to trigger the flash the same way before but now it doesn't seem to work. When I change from S2 to S1 it triggers the flash but the picture looks as if the flash never went off.

I tried putting the ST-E2 on my 20D and did the same combo but it doesn't seem to work. The flash does work when I switch I attach to the hotshoe and shoot.

Any idea on what I'm doing wrong?

The ST-E2 will trigger the 560? I didn't even know that.

What mode is the ST-E2 set in? The 560 won't do ETTL, so I'm not sure why it needs to be in S2 (or, for that matter, why the ST-E2 is transmitting ETTL info). If all else fails you might also try decreasing the shutter speed so the sync is easier.

Yes, I was able to simply "pop" the flash with the st-e2. I dusted off my 20D and can trigger the 560 when on S2 but if I attach my 550ex to the hot shoe it will not "pop" the 560. I attached the 550ex to the 20D hot shoe and unfortunately that does not work either. Any way to reset the 560?

The 560 is incredibly basic, I don't see why there would be any reason to "reset" it. If the flash from the 550 won't set off the 560 you might have other problems...
