Is your tamron TACK SHARP at f/2.8??? Mine seems good, but its not SHARP SHARP... Im shooting a cell phone buttons @ 75mm from 3 feet away...

yes using a tripod.

It's going to be a little softer than say a good copy of the Canon, but it still is going to get the job done. But your picture is at ISO 800. You should do it in normal light. A chart is a better test if you really want a test.

None of the standard range zooms are in my own experience: Sigma, Tamron, Canon. Stop it down to 5.6 or so to appreciate it. All lenses have limits and normally zooms have more of them. They need to be used with that in mind.

3.2 for me was pretty good, but below that things fall off in sharpness pretty quickly. Although you would think it is there (the f2.8 ) for low light situations, it seems to be best as a meter for DOF used with good light at a high shutter speed...My Sigma 70-200 is twice the lens with 2.8 in low light situations...
