1M translucent reflector? Please explain, or did you mean the Eli translucent deflector.

I'm assuming that he means one of those 1m diameter collapsible reflector/diffusers that you can use as either a fill card or as a means of diffusing light. It looks like he held it in between the fireball and the subject and shot the light through it. It basically acts like a 1m diameter softbox when you do that. Nice light, but you can't really tell that the fireball is behind it. The hot hands were from the direct light from the fireball that got around the diffuser.

No I used a collapsable translucent reflector, it just diffuses light as Sheldon said. :)

I have this one - http://www.bhphotovideo.com …Reflector_Disc_White.html (external link)

+1, I just dunno about the hot hands. Because if light shoots past the diffuser it is a lot lot hotter. I just metered the light at his head and not hands level. As they were closer to the diffuser I guess the exposure was higher than at his head level. So they appear hot in the image. :(

Light going pass the diffuser. (not shot with Maxi lite)

My humble contribution to this thread. First attempt to use Maxi lite, and sadly won't be able to use it until easter/summer.

Yummy (light that is !! )

Is that the P/No 24926 dome ?

I've been Googling and it seems there is more then a little bit of confusion as to what the Elinchrom part number is for this dome !

Thanks,

Austen.

Yes, the EL24926 is the one. You lose the deflector rod hole though.

Google Images "Elinchrom 24926" gets you all three samples !!!

And, as an aside, do you need to swap out the modelling light (E27) for a GX-6 ?

http://www.elinchrom.com …n-Glass-Dome.html#content (external link)

Also, is it a "semi-permanent" modification, that is, you need a screwdriver every time you want to remove it, or do the little "brackets" stay fitted permanently and the spring is removable at will ?

Final question, for this post, what is this ...............

Thanks, I'll leave you alone, for a little while, now !!!

Austen.

You need a screwdriver to mount the spring clips to the flash head, then you can clip on the dome with the spring clips. Dome can be removed with no screwdriver, but it leaves the dangling spring clips on the flash head.

Can be seen here:

Thanks Sheldon, I was wondering about that, the images I had seen (and even the one you linked to) weren't 100% totally clear.

One wonders why Elinchrom don't supply a small tab washer with a hole to allow the spring to be removed at will ..............

Cheers,

Austen.

From the Elinchrom product page referenced by your link:

"Note:
Heads or Compacts with E27 / 100W or 250W Modelling Lights cannot be used with the Glass-Dome. This is only possible when used with small Halogen lamps, same wattages, but with the GX 6.35 socket. This requires Halogen Lamp Adapter // 23101, which converts from E27 to GX 6.35."

So, yes, the E27 base modeling light must be replaced with a halogen bi-pin adapter and 6.35mm base Halogen bulb.
