Monk Parakeet (Buenos Aires)

Finally have time to process some of the bird photos i took during the Buenos Aires trip. I'll start with these cute fellas. They were everywhere in the city. You can't miss them because they are LOUD! They even faught with the pigeons for the breads and crums on the ground. Very interesting scene. I did some birding at the Plaza de Las Naciones Unidas and saw this one flied down to the lawn alone. It's as if he's in his own world and didn't mind me getting close.

Thanks jhayevw. These were taken on my tripod, since there's no IS. The bottom 3 were taken with all tripod legs collapsed and spread wide to get the lower angle. With tripod, i could do as slow as 1/100s at 500mm (sometimes even slower but i get subject motion blur with this guy). Tripod is an essential part of my bird photography.

Thanks Tina. Wild parrots or macaw are common in your neck of the woods too, aren't they? Would love to head over there to photograph some day.

Thanks Levina. I was surprised it allowed me to get close. We have some Monk Parakeets here in Austin but none is THAT friendly.

yes, we have quite a few parrots Fee, no macaws. In fact, we have birds similar to these you posted, but my shots weren't so good.

Thanks Andre. Yupe, we have them here in Austin too but are extremely skittish. Over there in Buenos Aires, they are like...grackles.
