Hello POTN,After much bickering ive gotten the go-ahead with a 18mnts interest free credit card to get my dream lense.Im going to hang on to my rebels xsi to use with this lense.(It will fit on my body right?).Forgetting the weight issue,Used with the right camera settings will i still get a good keeper rate? The rebel is a good starter but will it be worth me getting with this 70-200.I guess i can learn as i go.

Ive almost been talked into a 7D instead of this lenses. Most pple here almost always say better glass if you have a decent body.I have a few lenses that i could sell to help out with the lense cost.

Ok im at the rambling pt.Main question:Will i still justify my new lense considering i dont have the best /latest body(which down the road i could fix).I have seen some rebels xsi shots with this lense.Turned out pretty good.

Last one:If you had a chance to get extened warrenty yes or no?3yrs forget it or what?

Ive said alot but this is a $2000 purchase right at Christmas.
Thanks and Happy Holidays!!

The lens can stay with you as you upgrade bodies. If you upgrade the body you will still wish you had better glass. Go for the lens, it will be yours longer than a new body will

Extended warranties are rarely worth it. Especially if you are financing them on a credit card.

your XSI is a more than capable camera and the 70-200 will work perfectly with it and any other canon eos camera you mount it on from here on out when you decide to upgrade the body..the best part is , in 5 yrs if you decide to sell,it will more than likely net you back close to what you paid or just a few hundo less:D

I got that lens when I only had a T1i. Was looking through some older pics the other day. One that was especially sharp jumped out at me. I looked at the info on it, and it was taken with the T1i.

You will love it. Have fun.

I got mine yesterday from Adorama to go on my XSi. Same as you, I went for glass now and hope to upgrade body down the road. We are planning a family cruise to Alaska in 2013 so that's my target date to have upgraded the body. Played with it some last night and had just a few minutes today. It was a full overcast day..not the best, but I had fun with it anyway. Can't wait to get serious with it. Enjoy.

Got a camera, some cheap glass, one nice glass, a PC which doubles as my darkroom and a lot to learn - and having fun learning.
Taking a picture is like planting a memory, it grows more beautiful with time.

ReDDoG,

You made the right choice; it's a fine lens. Mine arrived last week and I've shot one basketball game with it and while I'm not satisfied with the pics, the lens itself performed perfectly. Only my lack of experience prevented my pics from being decent. In my own defense, I steadily improved througout the JV game and the varsity game right after and did manage a few really nice shots.

I also tried the lens out with my Canon 2x TC and 1.4x TC stacked together and it focused a LOT better than I expected; faster than my 100-400 did without TCs. If there wasn't contrast it wouldn't focus at all, but that was expected.

BTW, I'm shooting with a Canon 60D and also considered upgrading my body, but opted for better glass intead. My Canon 60D is not quite four months old and it will do a lot more than what I know how to do and until I completely master it, I won't seriously consider upgrading. ;)

If you don't have any specific reason to upgrade your XSi then don't worry about getting a different body. Lenses make a world of difference in image quality. Bodies are limited by the quality of the lens. And the 70-200mm f/2.8L IS mk2 is an amazing lens.

I usually shoot with a 5D2, but I was using a borrowed Rebel XS body with my 70-200 copy and got some of my favorite shots ever. The point that so many people seem to miss in the beginning (and I am just as guilty) is that quality lenses will change your photos much more dramatically than any body will. The lens you got is pretty much cream of the crop when it comes to that focal length range, and you're going to get great results with it whatever body you're using.

I just got the 70-200 II for my T1i. The pictures I take with it are so much better than with the kit lens (or the Canon 55-250, which I had before) that it was like I got a new camera thrown in for free. Enjoy the new glass.
