Hi guys,

I want to make this the right purchase and not worry about constantly changing the background stands. I am looking for something that will be sturdy and will allow me to use 3 different backgrounds. I am very new to this but have been doing a lot of reading and researching and did visit Zack Arias's site for setup info as well. It doesn't have to be portable as I do not intend on taking my setup to different locations at all. I have read about autopoles but not 100% sure how it works but from what I understand it is more of a permanent solution and requires to be drilled in?

Also, the room in which I would like to setup my small studio is carpeted. Does it really matter or would I need to remove the carpet? Room size is 14X13.

Thank you for any help/suggestions/advice you can provide.

Regars,
Karim.

Don't expect much of a reply at this time of the night (people are usually drunk and being ridiculous in the most ridiculous threads at this time). Sorry that I can't offer you some help on this but others will chime in I'm sure. For now, just look at the stands and their specs at B&H, specifically Manfrotto as they have great quality for their price.

Ok, so I have decided to change the room and use our laundry room for now which is unfinished but has no carpet and space is no issue at all. It is 21'x13' which gives me a lot more room, however the ceiling is also unfinished and the beams are exposed which I may need to cover I am assuming. Here is a pic of the basement in the laundry room and yes, it is very messy right now but I am thinking this might be the room to set up my small home studio and go from there.

Hi, I can't recommend any specific manufacturer, but when I had my studio (many years ago now) I had a support system that bolted to the wall, consisting of two brackets, the poles and a chain system attached to each pole. Just pull the chain one way to unroll the background of your choice, then the other to roll it back up again. Very solid and easy to use, no chance of a model pulling it over onto themselves. I had black and white papers on there permanently and the third axle was used for various others that were swapped around as required.

As for carpet, it isn't a good idea as it doesn't provide a solid ground under the paper. That means that any moderately pointy heels will just punch straight through your paper. You can place boards over the carpet, but that isn't as good as a nice solid floor. Your laundry room looks ideal..

That's the kind of system (external link) I'm using, you can sometime find them used for half that price.
