I have looked every place I can think of and need help. At some point the Canon downloader (MCU?) started coming up when I attache a card reader. I've been using Bridge to download and Canon software was not starting. Now I'm using LR3 and I can't stop Canon.

I would prefer not to rename the software to stop it.

Can anyone help me? (With the Canon downloader - I need all kinds of help but tonight this has bubbled to the top).

By the Canon downloader do you mean EOS Utility or something else?

OSX: This is set in "Image Capture" on a Mac: in the prefs set "none" as application to open when a camera is connected.
Windows: Probably something similar.

Thank you Rene - I found it and changed it. Evidently you have to have a 'device' attached to the system in order to change the function in Image Capture. Which I guess makes sense.

Tony - it was the Canon download program - MCU I think it's called.

I'll bet I opened that Image Capture app a dozen times - with no card attached - and couldn't figure out how to change the function.:o

Just checked this, and you're right.
That was not the case in OSX 10.4 (or 10.5 IIRC). Must have changed this in 10.6.
Which is just plain stupid: The app should have a preference setting IMO…

Anyhow, good to know.

I have been looking for this also. I wasn't able to find image capture though. Is it somewhere in system preferances?

It's in the Applications folder.

^ What René said. Look for Image Capture.app. You do have to have a device connected, but even your iPhone (if you have one) will work, since Image Capture sees that as a camera device.
