Does anyone have the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 III yet?

The Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 III (external link) came out at the same time (March 2011) as the IS II model but so far I haven't seen one for sale used, no discussion of it in the forums, no reviews, none on eBay etc.

The lens was shown with the EOS 1100D kits advertised in much of the world except North America. There are some pictures of it on dPreview. The Canon websites listed 1100D kits with the III lens a bit less expensive than kits with the 18-55 IS II but now I only see kits with the IS II although the lens is still listed here (external link) on the Canon.au site. If it really is the same optical formula as the IS model but with the IS group fixed, it might even be better optically.

Canon's announcement of it was here (external link). Does anyone know if Canon actually shipped any of these or was it postponed indefinitely like the 600 II and 500 II that were announced at the same time?

how can it be "the same optical formula as the IS model but with the IS group fixed" if it doesn't have IS?

Canon's block diagrams for the lenses show both with the same eleven lens elements in the same positions just without the fifth element being for IS, ie without the red box, ie the fifth element "fixed" in place instead of moving.

Oh I see when you said "fixed" you meant "non-moving (non-IS)", not "repaired"...

this is the closest answer: http://en.wikipedia.org …F_EF-S_18-55_I.2FII.2FIII (external link)

It appears that the Wikipedia author is speculating although he/she is probably correct. When you look up note 4, it doesn't say anything of the sort, it only says:

"It includes aspherical lenses and coatings plus a redesign that positions elements to minimise ghosting and flare. Consisting of 11 elements in 9 groups it has a circular aperture and optimised AF control."
