Hey all,

I thought I'd never have to do this, but I honestly don't have a clue what to rent..

Tonight I leave for the yearly family ski trip. And I'm bringing my camera!(surprise right?)

Last year I skiied WITH a 1D2 and the 50 f1.8. Risky, but the day I brought it out it was clear skies for over 50 miles.

This year, I'm bringing my 7D with me again, and this time the 1Ds !!!!!

I really enjoined using a fast lens and taking advantage of the thin depth of field the 50 gave me.

My desire is for a weather sealed lens. And it gotta be small, as in short because I AM skiing with it.

Is this whole thing as simple as renting the 50L???

Maybe the 24L???

Happy holidays everyone.

Rent the 24 TSE!

It's a nice clear day here today. Warming up a bit lately - almost get to 40° today ;)

24-105

Why would you want to use a 50L on a ski slope? Are you taking pictures WHILE skiing? or after skiing? 50L for after, 24-105 for during. Imo. ymmv.

I hate to burst your bubble, but don't worry about weather sealing.... it's not going to snow here anytime soon.

I'd recommend any lens you can get creative with, since that's what it's going to take to get good pictures this Christmas. There's not much snow anywhere unless you're skiing Wolf Creek or Silverton- in that case, I'd use the 24-105mm lens.

I'm not sure why you'd even consider the 50mm or the 24mm for skiing pictures.

If you're skilled on your skis or board, go with the EF 24-105 f/4 IS as an all around lens. If you're really confident, the EF 70-200 f 2.8 I or II are also outstanding but much bigger and heavier.
