Is it possible to trigger 2 speedlights with one pocketwizard plus II? Not using optical, BTW.

I've tried attaching 2 sync cables too the ports on top of the PWII, one to each speedlight. That didn't work, only one would fire.

I also tried using this splitter from flashzebra, http://flashzebra.com/monominiphone/0075.shtml (external link), but still could only get one flash to fire.

Any suggestions?

I had the splitter from Flashzebra, same problem. Could get them to fire two speedlites when using on kacey beauty dish. Turns out to be the problem with the splitter as Lon sent me new one and it worked like a charm. Call him.

Assuming your cables and/or adapters are in working order, you can absolutely split sync from the Flash output of the Pocket Wizard Plus II and feed two strobes or flash units.

hmm... maybe it is the splitter then. I know each of the sync cables I have is working as expected on its own.

Have you tried swapping the flashes to see if you can isolate where the problem is? (see if one leg of the cable is bad)

I use the same Splitters from Flash Zebra and they work great.
It should be easy to trouble shoot the issue and see if it is a cord/flash or splitter issue.

That looks like a standard mono mini plug splitter. I would go to a Radio Shack or equivalent and pick up one to try.
Are both flashes the same model? You did see the note to be sure that the trigger voltages of the two flashes are the same. Some flashes even have the polarity reversed.

That is what is so great about having standards. There are so many of them! :)

In my case I was using same flashes 550ex. It was the brand new splitter. I was using fancy sync cables courtesy of Rob. Got the new splitter from Lon and everything ok. Drove me nuts as using only one sync cable and flash will always fire that flash. The port of the splitter didn't matter and I checked continuity with DMM and it was all ok.

Just fyi, I got both the splitter, a canon hotshoe adapter for pocketwizards and the screw lock sync cables from FlashZebra earlier this week. Each cable was verified to work fine on its own.

The flashes I have are
Canon 580 EXII
Canon 540 EZ
LumoPro 160

From your original post, if you move the light that is working to the other leg of the cable, does the light work when moved? My suggestion if one leg appears to work is to is to isolate if it is the cable or the flash. With the 3 flashes that you have, will each work individually if placed on the dual sync cable?

Regards,

Definitely user-error on my part. Got the gear out tonight and did some more testing. It turns out that one side of that splitter seems to be very tight, and I really have to force the mini-plug in all the way to make the connection. Using a normal amount of force, there was about 1/8" or less of the mini plug that wasn't all the way in, until I really forced it.

I have the FlashZeba synch splitter. You definitely have to push hard to get the cables seated properly, but the splitters works fine with two 580EX II.

The splitter does not work at all with two LumoPro LP160. When two LP160s are hooked to the splitter, the flash control will not function correctly, much less fire. This is not a big deal, since I usually use the LP160s as optical slaves anyway. If I do need to fire two of them someplace where I need a PW, I can always fire one with the PW and the other as an optical slave.

Sweet. I actually didn't try the Lumopro with the splitter last night, I just used the Canon 580EXII and Canon 540Ez. It's unfortunate that the splitter doesnt work with the lumopros. I actually really like them and was considering getting another one. Maybe I'll have to look for a modded 540ez with a sync port added.

I use this shoe adapter from Flash Zebra with great results. With this adapter there is no worrying about if the flash has a sync port anymore. I use Buff Cyber Syncs but they have the same connector as your PW's. I actually Locktited one of these to the threaded stud of each my stands to eliminate the wobbly mount of the cold shoe.

I should have got that one... I got the deluxe canon one, but I dont really like it. I'd rather have the locking ring on the one you linked to. I've switched to Frio cold shoes on all my stuff, but the hotshoe adapter I have wobbles all around in it.
