curious what kind of shutter speeds you were seeing at f/2.8 and ISO 4000. They look a bit softer than they should.

Actually it was my first night out for BBall with it.The shutter speed was 1/400 for those shots. It was early in the game and I did adjust as the game went on.I wanted to see how low of SS I could go with it.I did bump the SS up to 1/640 with better results.
thanks!

Good adjustment. 1/640 is going to get good results. Reviewed your shots again. Do you have the focus points limited to centerpoint only? If not, definitely put it there and disable any surrounding focus points. The 7D will 'hand off' focus to other points, usually focusing on something CLOSER to the lens than your intended target.

For example: Image 1, rim and net is where focus landed; #2 got the net as well; #4 got the logo on the ball, but player is OOF.

There are some threads on setting up a 7D for shooting sports and other fast moving objects. Basketball, for sure! See if you can locate a thread or two and double check how your 7D is setup to make sure you're giving yourself every oppty to come away with GREAT shots. Your gear is definitely up to the task!

Congrats on your new lens. Drool! ;)

Really nice shots for a first time out with the 70-200MKII IS. Those shots will come to mind when I am sorting out my wish list....That lens may have just moved up a notch on the list.

Regards,

Not sure if you had IS on, but I've had clearer images with the IS off if shooting the basket near me and not the far end...Do you also shoot with center focus?
Ron
