Again, well done! Sure the gull wasn't checking to see if you had a cheese curl in your pocket? Last winter, my wife walked out on the beach w/ a tube of sunblock in her hand & was immediately inundated w/ gulls thinking whatever. I laughed-she screamed!

As to the pigeon being 'common' and not beautiful. Well, that's because they are everywhere and we take them for granted. Were they scarce, I'm sure everyone would be after them, trying to get a pic of them. For me it really doesn't matter how common a bird is. All I want is to take the ultimate photograph of a bird, whatever the species and I'd rather take one very good photograph of a gull or a pigeon than 10 blurry, out of focus shots of an eagle. Not that I wouldn't like to photograph an eagle. But that's another story...
