wow I'm going in all different directions with my bday list :lol: I've came to my sense that a 15 year old does not need a $4000 lens. but I'm thinking i should pick up a 1d3...

You know 115-year olds who can lift 7+ pounds for extended periods of time? Cost should be the least of their concerns :D

If you're doing a ton of action shooting from a distance, there's little reason not to indulge if you can afford it. Really though, I don't think you need to be out that far. Seems like you know these surfers. Unless you're hiding in a photo blind at a topless beach...

You don't know what you're missing without the 300 2.8 :D I'll happily sacrifice most of my standard zoom and prime setup to keep it. Most everything that comes from that lens is a keeper.
