The new year. That's about it. One more day in paradise and it's back to the land of hellish cold and violent crime. You'd think that freezing temps would deter crime, but you'd be wrong.

Where are you?..

If I did that I'd have to sell off my 100L and 35L :D I like them enough that I cannot justify that purchase. You're pretty gung-ho about the 500. Didn't you imply at one point that you have one? That thing sure looks like a heavy beast to carry. The mark2 for that lens is actually justified in its pricing, based on its reduction in weight. That's huge.

I've never owned a super telephoto since most of my shooting is UWA. I just haven't made up my mind yet. Here's my rationale. You're a wildlife/bird photographer. The 500 L is like the standard for this type of photography. ;)

And you don't need to go into the woods to capture birds.:)

My heart bleeds for your cold temps!

At the monster in law's the temp did get down to -22F :)

Snow covered freezing rain on the car. The doors were stuck shut for most of the day on Tuesday last week.

Jake in CA
Don't give up on landscape photography...it takes more than skill, first a good scene, and proper timing for lights...your sunset shot over the water may not look great, maybe try it out at sunrise, with the mountains glowing under the golden hour...i was at grand teton around noon and mid afternoon under a hazy sky, there was no way to shoot the scene well, but I was lazy, actually with many guests, and did not come back for better lighting and seeing conditions

If I get another opportunity at a "cheap" 500L, I may do so--can't afford to indulge myself otherwise--I'd be left with a barebones 16-35L and one other lens. I'm definitely loving fast primes for general shooting--especially at night. Took the 35L out last night for the fireworks. Fantastic handhelds.

I've been thinking about getting a better beamer for birding/wildlife, but I imagine I'd only get one good shot before they bolt. That bird sure did take off quick after that flash.

Yeah, I hear you guys on the east coast are about to get hit by some serious cold weather. On Tuesday it's going to be a high of 57F here--it's bee in the 70s the last week

Check this out. The guy is using a Better Beamer but, he's able to use his flash continuously in sync with the camera. Do you know what he's using to get such a fast refresh rate? Go to 5:19-5:20.
