^^Nice family but major lens flares

Yes... I know...

I wasn't the one taking the pictures, my cousin was, she was using my camera with the 28mm, I gave her the hood hoping it would help, but in the end I wasn't the one behind the camera, so I'm working with what I have.

Most of my sisters sort of like that artsy, "the photo is pretty crappy but it's the 'in' look" type of editing.

There are a couple of other areas we did the shots, but someone is always hiding behind someone else, or people are looking at the baby... it's very irritating.

Julian are you at work?

I need someone with an IPS to check some colors on a photo for me... (yeah yeah I need to get one... it's on the list)

Hi Nick. I'm at work. :) Sorry.

You did a good job. Skin tones did go blegh in the first edit. There's this weird bleaching effect on the forehead of the one on the very right.

I like the look of the second one, so I'd just bring the exposure down on it a bit. Too high key and blinding atm.

Well since I had a bit more of a backstory on the last one..

Basically all of my family were in town, so we had my cousin take some family photos and time of day/location were just terrible so I'm doing what I can with the photos.

I had something like this
IMAGE NOT FOUND
HTTP response: NOT FOUND | MIME changed to 'image/gif' | Redirected to error image by FLICKR

IMG_4427.jpg (external link) by *sigh* (external link), on Flickr

But maybe I'll really go extreme on the desaturation... the colors are less gross.. (Ok maybe I won't go this extreme... )

Here's one unedited for reference...

PS... I really hate family photos...

I'll give you some feedback when I get home in the morning. From what I can tell, there is a bunch of flare.

Yeah, the first one needs some tweaking on the colors.

I'm leaning towards the 2nd one a bit right now, although it will come down to which one my sisters/mom like. I will bring the highlights down a bit though, I can't bring them down too much though or the faces start looking bleh.

I'd play with bringing the overall exposure down a tad, and tightening the contrast a bit. That's all it needs IMO to be a clearer photo. No need to treat the highlights separate.

Anyway, bed time for me! Good luck with the edit Nick :)

Better? Still needs some work, but the exposure is down a bit, and a little more even overall.

Yes, I know there is a lot of flare... I don't know what to do about it though..

I have other pictures that are better in terms of flare and exposure, but the expressions aren't as good, or someones eyes are closed, or someone is staring at the baby etc.

I can't take anymore tonight, I'm going to bed (that and I have to be up in 3 hours). Goodnight.

AND use good grammar. Think about it this way Jake. When you are 30 years old and a kid asks if he can help you but can't spell right or use proper tenses would you want to let him help you be apart of his business for a day? I'm not trying to offend you but I'm just saying that if you think about it they're running a business and don't want their time wasted.

Also don't rush into it. Start taking portrait shots of people and try to think like a wedding photographer if you are serious about it. Look at photos see what they try to get out of the photos. :)

Why do people who advise using good grammar use bad grammar?

I would definitely want you to be "apart of my business," and not "a part of my business."

Overall, however, this is good advice, in almost every instance.

I know, I will be inundated with "this is only an online forum, so grammar and spelling doesn't matter" replies.

But it does matter! Bad grammar and spelling demonstrates that you don't care about the reader, only about yourself.

And I, personally, know of several cases where professionals (lawyers) were not hired because they used bad grammar in their personal communications on line.

No one can see you on the internet. Therefore, you are what you type. I you type crap, well....

trust me I'm actually a great speller but when I'm on here I'm just spamming and don't read what I'm righting;)

If you won't "read what I'm righting," why should we right what were reading? This is exactly why I skip the majority of your posts.

But then, you probably don't care. We're not exactly bosom buddies.

Don't give up on landscape photography...it takes more than skill, first a good scene, and proper timing for lights...your sunset shot over the water may not look great, maybe try it out at sunrise, with the mountains glowing under the golden hour...i was at grand teton around noon and mid afternoon under a hazy sky, there was no way to shoot the scene well, but I was lazy, actually with many guests, and did not come back for better lighting and seeing conditions

Ol' Ansel would often wait days to get just the right lighting. And he was shooting B&W! Of course, none of his pictures were really worth anything....

Mmmmm, Scottish smoked salmon....love it when it is nice and fresh. I grew up 30 mins south of the Scottish Border. Cannot beat it.

We had some Moët last night too :)

Is that 30 mins. by foot, horse, car, train, plane, or, what is fastest, a Scot chasing a sheep?

How did Alex like the Moét?
