Do you use it often?

I think it would be useful to have, especially with the 70-200.

It has never left my camera. The balance it provides, especially on the larger lenses, is incredible. Shooting portraits is a breeze. I recommend a grip with every single camera and if you dont need the weight then it can easily come off. You know for those days in which you just want a 50mm, your 7D and nice weather to shoot away.

I don't like knock-offs...

That's one thing I'm awfully picky about.

I bought a bg-e7 knock off and returned it quickly. It didnt have the same quality feel as the 7D. However, when i had the XSI the knock off fit right in with the quality of the camera :lol:

Yeah.

Do you generally run one or two batteries in the grip? I have two now, not sure if I should pick up a third "backup" and run two in the grip.

Jake, you need to change the font and make it bold/black. But it's not bad. :p

Will you and Mayra put on costumes for EDC

Well you don't NEED one. I've done quite a bit of portrait stuff for work without a grip...

It sure would be nice to have one though.

I run one when im not event shooting. The 7D battery is really amazing and for personal use i have never had a need to have two of them. Im more likely to carry extras batteries for a flash than i would running two batteries in the grip (and even then the eneloops last forever as well). But you could always just run two of them all the time. I just prefer not to.

7d is bigger than the T2i so all the above applies even more so for the rebels. Being able to fully grip the camera alone makes it worth it for me (no dangling pinky). ;)

Ah ok, yeah I think I'll just run one.

I always like to keep a fully charged backup just in case. Yes two batteries at once will get me just as many shots, but having to swap out batteries halfway through lets you know that you need to start watching the meter.

I think what Tony meant is that if you shoot more often than not in portrait mode it would behoove you to have a grip.

I know. Just giving him a hard time about that use of "need". :p

My grip came with 2 batteries. They seem to last longer than my original. So I have 3 total and just rotate them. Having 4 I think would be ideal. Have 2 in the grip and then 2 more pre-charged and ready to go. The grip can run one just 1 battery or the AA cage in a pinch too. ;)

The pinky dangle is what forced me to go grip!

Yup. If i was say on vacation then two batteries would be in there. Like i did on my all day excursion in exuma, bahamas. But for 90% of your shooting odds are one would suffice. :) Unless you do events all the time then this is a mute conversation
