Hello

Long time photographer don't know much about digital video.

My 5d makes great movies but other than playing them on my computer as they came out of the camera I haven't done much with them.

I have made a couple of videos with Premiere Pro CS4, but obviously this is a program that takes hours for me to make even something simple at my current level of knowledge.

Often those who work with me or see my work would really like to have the video I shoot as well. Most are not capable of doing much with a giant .mov file, so I am searching for a way to convert my videos to a more user friendly size, without spending much time doing it.

I would like to be able to provide video sized properly (lowest file size but good quality for intended use) for the iphone (or other smartphones) the ipad and a size that can be e-mailed as well.

If anyone has a good method for doing this let me know, thanks

-Chris

You should have 101 different choices for output rendering in Premiere.

If you have Premiere you'll probably have the Adobe Media Encoder. It has presets for mobile devices.

Yes Premiere is has so many options, it will take me quite some time to get them straight. If you have any specific steps I should take using it please let me know. Thanks

Yes, but I thought perhaps POTN would be a good source as well...

Thanks, would I just open premier and choose that size in the save dialouge?

I have media encoder but although it had lots of output file types available I do not see anything for setting size or quality?

Additionaly:

I see that I tunes has a feature to convert video (to mp4 i think) Is this the best way to go about converting for iphone/pad? (size and quality) Annoyingly itunes does not make the files readialy availale following conversion. it is in my itunes library but not easy to locate as a file that I could share...

youtube will apparently accept my full size 5D .mov files. Apparently they resize them for the internet. Is there any quality advantage to fixing them myself before submitting to youtube?

Additionaly I could use an FLV downloader app to grab the files from youtube once youtube has resized them for me. Would this be a resaonable way to get it done or am I losing lots of quality through the youtube conversion?

Any conversion you do would lose quality, but if you downsized your videos to play on an iPhone/iPod/iPad, you wouldn't notice it since their native resolution is less.

I am a Final Cut user on a Mac, so I can't give specific advice, but Final Cut has a "Share" feature. You just select where you want to share it and Final Cut makes all the choices for your as to size and quality, etc. It would surprise me if your software doesn't have a similar feature.

I use Xilisoft Video Converter Ultimate 6. It will convert almost any file type and they have presets for YouTube upload/Web upload. Very easy to use and it supports gpu acceleration if you have a card that support that.
