I'm going on a trip to Boston after xmas and will be lugging along my 7d, 24-70, 100mm macro, flash, wireless triggers, et all in my crumpler 7mdh.

In your travelling experience how can I facilitate getting through the TSA lines with the least amount of trouble possible? Also, have any of you travelled with your Black Rapid sling straps? I'm fairly worried they might consider it a weapon and I'm out hat money. :(

If your worried about certain things pack anything non breakable in stowed luggage. I have never had an issue with TSA when passing through US airports, or Australian ones for that matter.

I travel every single week and have two kits I rotate through depending on what my planned activities are.

One kit is my 7d, 70-200 mkii, 50mm 1.4 17-50, 10-22 a 580exii along with a set of pocket wizards, light meter and miscellaneous items such as my strap, flashlight, 2x extender and a G12. (heavy bag) Tenba medium Shootout.

My other kit is an XSI with 17-50. 55-250, 430 ex and 50mm 1.4 and PW's (light bag) Fastpack 250

Never once have I had a problem. Not even a hint of a problem. as a matter of fact one day a TSA agent asked what kind of lens the big one was. I told him 70-200 mkii and we actually started talking about it.

Also with the bag, I typically haul along 2 laptops and an Ipad..

EDIT.. And I have a BR strap as well and never had any issues, with on the camera or packed in it's mesh bag.

I travel with my kit all the time. I have never had an issue, including with the Black Rapid strap. I never check my camera gear, it always goes as carry on in my backpack, including my laptop. The only thing I am ever asked is to take the lappie out of the bag and run it through the Xray seperately. The only time I have ever had an issue anywhere was at Detroit where I had to go through the full body Xray, all my internal body metal "hardware" (nuts, bolts, screws, pins, plates) showed up haha

over seas you may have problem wtih paying taxes on importing too much gear through customs. i had this problem in israel and ended up with big fines.

Always do right, this will gratify some people and astonish the rest.

I have traveled with all my gear as well. Usually one roll on bag full of camera hardware, laptops, and my slingshot 300 as well. I have been asked at times to open my bags and turn on the cameras but have never really been hassled.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

I live in Canada so I have all my gear registered with customs. Just to make sure they know I did not purchase any of it in the US. I would die if they tried to charge me for it.

Ah...TSA. I do a fair amount of flying between Hawaii and the mainland and usually don't have a problem. They're generally nice. I did have one recently who wanted to remove my 70-200 2.8L from the body and "look in it because it was really dark in there". Remember, you're not allowed to touch your stuff once these pinheads have it in their hands. I asked for a supervisor and we quickly took care of the
dark lens problem without removing it from the body.
Best advice is keep your mouth shut, take your shoes off and enjoy the groping experience (my doctor has advised me not to go thru their x-ray machines, so I opt for the grope every time. Think about it, would you want them running and operating the x-ray machines at your local hospital?).

Consider a Black Rapid strap a weapon? I know TSA is stupid, but not that stupid...

The ultimate solution is to do what I prefer to do: Travel by train.
