Sigma lens compatibilty

As most of us probably know a lot of the older Sigma lenses are not compatible with some modern Canon cameras, although they fit the electronics restricts them from working properly. In most cases these lenses cannot be re-chipped by Sigma because they are discontinued models.

There are a lot of these lenses about on the used market but I have never been able to find a definitive list of which are compatible and which are not.
Does anyone know if a list exists or of any way of recognising the non-compatible ones without actually fitting them on a camera.

I've never seen one. One way might be to just go to Sigma's site. If its a current lens you should be ok. I'm pretty sure that the discontinued lenses are no longer supported for rechipping.

I believe that if the Sigma lens has DG or DC in the name then it will work fully with current EOS cameras almost for certain. If it doesn't have DG or DC in the full name, then it may or may not depending how old it is or if it has been rechipped or not. It would be best to try it on your camera before buying.
