The preseason is getting started and I finally get the opportunity to bring my 60D with me to shoot some pictures. I still need a lot of practice but got a few shots I'm somewhat happy with. All of these were taken with the Canon 55-250mm lens. What do you think?

They're underexposed. Shooting stuff from the stands is always tough though. WB is off too, very yellow

Do they sell tickets for practice? I've never seen that before.

This was the last preseason practice and the Magic made it open to the public with a 2 quarter scrimmage. I think they had around 9,000 people for this?

They don't usually practice on the main court at Amway.

underexposed, WB is too warm, out of focus, strange cropping.

These pictures weren't edited. They were all straight out of the camera. How can you tell they are underexposed? I metered these in camera so I'm not sure what I missed.

I find that for the majority of sports I shoot, I overexpose by anywhere from 1/3 to a full stop to brighten faces and eliminate shadows...helps a ton with dark skinned and black athletes as well as shadows under ball caps, face masks etc.

That being said, your pics look OK to me exposure wise...maybe a touch brighter would help but not much.

As to shots....1. Past peak action and is out of focus; 2. too loose...crop tighter.; 3. Better action and crop

Not to be rude, but I have two eyes, that's how LOL. Yes, you metered in camera but then there's the question of what type of metering it was. Always overexpose by at least a 1/3 as the other person said, because faces are important in sports and shadows can ruin a photo. They're also soft, which could depend on in-camera settings.
