I recently purchased a flash that was wrapped with gaffer tape and have heard that everyone should have a roll. What are some interesting things you have done with gaffer tape?

Some professionals do it so they are not tied to one brand in public. Some people just do not want people to see what expensive equipment they are shooting with. Some events do not allow brands to be advertised. There are a multitude of reasons for it. Run it's the big bad amateur

I like that it's sticky like duct tape but also doesn't leave any sticky goo. It's helpful for providing protection as well, if you get the brandname versions that are thicker than normal. RPCrowe Cream of the Crop More info | I used to tape lights onto the walls of location motion picture sets. BTW that's how the tape got its name. A gaffer was the nickname of a lighting person on a mopix set. See my images at http://rpcrowe.smugmug.com/

Where do you guys get it from? -=Prints For Sale at PIXELS=-

People try to rationalize it by saying it stops people from stealing.... But, do you know of ANY cheap camera thay does not have a logo/name on the camera? So this must mean it is an expensive camera in disguise! Making it MORE of a target! After all nobody tapes up a cheap camera. Theves are smart a lil bit of tape is more of a "steal me" flag than it is a deterrent. And evidently they are smarter than some of the owners I have seen with tape all over the body.... yet still have the D3X in bright yellow on the strap.

isoMorphic Goldmember 2,090 posts Joined May 2008 More info | Most everything on movie sets including deodorant, shampoo, cars and even the type of soda being consumed is sponsored. Anything else usually has no label or gets covered up to prevent lawsuits from unauthorized use. Which is why you almost never see brand names on liquor bottles or cigarettes. When you see paparazzi in movies the prop cameras usually have no branding but if they do it's a real camera and was sponsored. For added realism they may have some shiny object similar to a logo on fake cameras but it's made up and not based on real world brands.
