So I was down in disney and had my Camera at my side hanging from a BlackRapid RS-Sport strap. Lovely strap...well...I went to put the camera at my side again and somehow the caribeener(the camera fell with the tripod mount attached) must have opened up and down my camera fell to the ground. Luckily only a minor dent in the corner of the camera which caused the "magnify" button to stick but I'm sure a trip to Canon will get that sorted out.

Seems like some sort of better locking mechanism to keep this from opening would be ideal. The current rotating lock is nice but it loosens over time.

That's why I got rid of my BR strap. A strap should hold the camera and one shouldn't have to worry about it.

How certain are you that you dogged the lock on the carbiner down tight? Generally I think these are user-induced, but I've a couple in the last couple days.

In any case, it makes me glad for what I've done with my setup. As I've posted in a couple other places here, I spent an extra $7 for a strap that is very non-intrusive and should protect me from any issues like you experienced:

"Stock" setup (which very rarely use):

With the L-bracket:

I actually like the whole setup better with the L-bracket in place. Full writeup on my blog if you're interested.

That is one of the reasons that I don't use a Black Rapid.

Instead I carry two cameras using the OPTECH Dual Harness.

http://www.amazon.com …32-Neoprene/dp/B002IUQ180 (external link)

Each camera is attached at two points using the Dual Harness so if any strap should fail, the camera will not drop. The weight of both cameras is also distributed across my shoulders.

I attach a carbiner clip to the side straps of my photo vest or to the belt loops of my trousers if I am not wearing the vest. Clipping a carbiner onto each camera prevents the camera from swinging as I move around.

I meant to imply, and sorry if it wasn't clear, that the lock wasn't tight. The screw into the tripod mount was tight...but the lock wasn't. Somehow the caribeener opened up and the camera crashed to the ground. I may invest in that type of system you modded yours with. I wish BR would improve this aspect of their strap though. Perhaps this is why people preferred the luma loop. I understand it was be attached to the normal strap loops.

I have similar concern about BR's implementation too althought nothing has happen to me. My concern is the "mushroom" will evenetually wear though, the whole carbiner will fall off. I have seen it happened. Now I am trying the screw connector by SunSniper, it seems to work better. But the connection matel there is still thin, not sure if it will dislogged from the main screw body as time goes on. I love the sling strip idea in general, but the risk does bother me. Maybe one day I will swithc back to regular canon strap.

Well, OpTech harness with plastic clips is 50 times more susceptible to failures. BR or any other brand, there is no 100% proof against user errors like not locking carabiner in this particular case. Safety tether is a cheap insurance, always works.

I just use that boring old strap that came with my T2i. It works fine and I've never had a problem with it.

I don't need a strap "system"...

That "boring old strap" could and have been failing, statistically there is no difference. Things do fail for some and not for others. "I have never had a problem" wit BR either, as well as thousands of others happy users, things tend to be blown out of proportion on internet, one complaint and we have a witch hunt.

Check out the new Cinch strap from the folks at LumaLoops. Looks pretty nice. This maybe the piece that makes a sling style strap actually work well.

Three - T2i and 2 Powershots... Back in the film days, I used four cameras. All have (or had - film) their own straps and there have been no problems of any kind.

P.S. I'm not from the "coddled" generation... ;)
