I still don't regret letting my subscription to the Geographic lapse. The caliber of the pictures,(and the subjects), kept getting worse and worse over time.

IMHO I see some outstanding pictures in the various genres on this site that put the NG photos to shame! :)

Heros don't wear capes, they wear dog-tags!
Canon 60D, Canon 18-135 EFS, 10-22 EFS, 55-250 EFS and EF 100-400 f4.5-5.6L Lenses, Kenko 2.0X PRO 300 Teleconverter DGX.

I stopped also.

The ink smells odd too.
Most certainly the funkiest smelling magazine out there.

I agree -- it's hard to say it's the BEST; I'm glad I didn't have to decide! :D

As one who has tried to capture dragons, I really.. really.. appreciate the difficulty in getting close enough to get these skittery beasts. I would have easily voted it as #1, but all the pics are really nice.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

The first one under "Places", the rainbow shot in the Philippines, the horizon isn't even straight.

There are some nice shots but without the captions on many of them I don't think they are all that great. I used to believe Nat Geo had the best photographs. Perhaps POTN pics/members have spoiled me.

SX40 HS, XSi (gripped), 7D (gripped), EF-S 18-55mm, EF 28-135mm, EF 28-70mm 2.8L, EF 70-200mm F4L IS, EF 50mm 1.8, EF 1.4x Extender II, 430EX-II

Wow.. I can't believe that. I mean the winning shot has such a glaring technical issue (that would be so easily fixed, too)... that's just gross oversight and incompetence on the part of the judges.

There are times when a shot can have a crooked horizon, but this type of shot, it's a definite no-no.

I just don't understand why the Formosa fishermen shoot didn't get the price.
