Hi I am newly on this field. I purchased Canon 1100D with EF S 18mm - 55mm IS (no other lens yet).

Im into sports photography and specially on Running. I just want to ask some tips on taking photos at dark places, because it usually starts early morning.

Is it possible not to use flash? or it is really required? Someone advice me (on this forum) to use AI servo than using manual focus. Is it good on dark place? sorry really a newbie. .

'Dark' has different meaning to different people. Your camera should focus well unless it is really, really, dark. The suggestion to use servo focus and auto focus (rather than manual focus) is a good one. Keep your focus point on your target for at least a half second (with the shutter button depressed halfway) and then fire the shutter (by pressing the shutter button the rest of the way) at will.

Use as large an aperture (smallest number) as possible. You will probably need to use a fairly high ISO to get a good shutter speed ( 1/500sec or faster).

Post your efforts.

Good Luck

Phil

The first running shots I took were also at a race that started very early. I started a thread about it here:

BTW you posted in the "Sports photo sharing" section, the "Sports talk" section is for discussion.
